FPO 23 was used by 5th Division in the campaign to oust the Italian occupation forces from Eritrea, Ethiopis & the Somalilands

Malcolme, Royal Army Medical Corps, Reception Station, Jerusalem & forwarded to 2/3rd Cavalry Field Ambulance, Nathanya bearing Sudan Air Mail 3 Piastre tied smudged Air Mail/Sudan cds & with Air mail etiquette removed for forwarding by D R L S (Despatch Rider Letter Service) & with Army /JSM /Signals (16 Jun) cds with on reverse bi-lingual Caire/Par Avion (14 Jun) transit cds ..................................................................... A full scale uprising in April 1936 by Palestinian Arabs against British colonial rule in mandated territory resulted in Britain sending more troops and an Army Postal unit via H.M.T "Dorsetshire" where FPO 12 opened on board and a further 10 FPO's between numbers 15 - 26 on arrival the first opening on 1 October with the last closing on 10 January 1937 after problems had subsided by the end of 1936 only to reoccur again by September 1937.

East Surrey Regt. sailed for Shanghai Oct 38 & later in Aug 40 were sent to Singapore, in Feb 41 they were sent to Northern Malaya under 11th Indian Div & fought their way south to Singapore losing over a third of their strenght only to be interned as POW's shortly afterwards upon the surrender to the Japanese
