Prison Maze known variously as Maze Prison, The Maze, The H Blocks & Long Kesh was located at former RAF Station Long kesh on the outskirts of Lisburn and used to house Para military prisoners during the Irish troubles from 1971 - 2000

Bryant, 539 Coy RASC, APO England bearing GV1 defiitive 2½d tied partial Belfast cds & with red Crown over circular Passed By Censor /2323 hand stamp …… An interesting & strange item Bryant's army number appears to have too many digits & even if the first & last are brackets it's still too high... APO England was an undercover address for security purposes used during the build up & during the initial stages of the "D" day Normandy landings ................................................ ..............................................Odd item that further research could pay dividends.

Ltd., London bearing GB GV 2d tied Kiltinane / Kilmallock cds & with Plain white re-sealing label with below black crayon IRA …............................................ Irish problems commenced in 1167 when king Henry 11 invaded & after many subsequent intrusions the early 1900's saw the Rise of Republicans and later in 1916 the Easter Rising when finally in May 1921 the partition of Ireland took place with a Northern Ireland Parliament being formed in June. Negotiations over the coming months resulted in the creation of the Irish Free State with British Commonwealth Dominion status which eventually led to full Independance in 1949.

Battalion which had been deployed to New Guinea in early 1944 bearing 1/- & 3d tied Ceanannus Mor cds (Kells) & with black on pink SP 1 /An Scrudoir D'Oscaii /42 label with on opposite side PC90 continuous Crowns /Opened By /Examiner /9443 label + red oval O.A.T. partly overlaid by Rockhamppton /Qld. Aust (19 Feb) transit cds ................... By the time this envelope left Rockhampton in early 1945 the 25th were involved in the Bourgainville Campaign in action at Pearl Ridge & Slater's Knoll against the Japanese where Cpl. Reg Rattey was awarded a Victoria Cross for heroic action

Posted the day, 14 May, that the Germans entered Paris but somehow found it's way into the Unoccupied (Vichy) Zone where the red Zone Occupee was applied & returned from 726 in France with Censorship taking place in Ireland then GB on the outward leg & again upon return to GB perhaps because of the return address being New York city & arousing suspicion

Italy declared war on Britain on 10 June 1940 two days before this posted thus the Imperial Airways route was severed so this item was diverted to the newly established Horseshoe Route by sea to Durban and onwards by Air ...Nice item

A scarce double censored item with Instructional mark...Rome was taken by Allied forces on 4 June 1944 & as German forces were still active in Northern Italy & fighting continued in France with Paris not being liberated until later in August there were no Air Mail facilities for civilians from nuetral Ireland at this time

Neath cds & triple censored with black on pink bi-lingual S.P.1 Opened By Censor + PC90 Opened By /Examiner 4,054 + plain brown label tied Geoffnet OKW Eagle Swastika hand stamp with alongside red 5634 & 3510 within frame plus blue framed Zuruck / Verkehr vorlaufig eingestellt (basically translates as "Return this Traffic" ) deleted in blue crayon but then blue violet unframed Retour /Service Interrompustamp hand applied ........ A scarce triple censored item that failed to reach it's destination due to disrupted services & having a Zuruck hand stamp of the Munich Censor station. deleted yet still Returned by the French probably due to the fact that allies by September 1943 had already landed in Italy
