Khartoum with Soudan & Sudan added in red forwarded to Colchester, Essex & then to Army P.O. Shanghai bearing KUT 15c & 5c tied faint Tabora-Kigoma / TPO cds & with large Khartoum / D (30 Mar) transit cds with on reverse Khartoum / A (23 Mar) + Wadi Halfa (2 Apr) transit cds & on face Army Post Office / 1 (3 May) arrival cd ........................ 2nd Batt. East Surrey Regt. sailed for Shanghai Oct 38 & later in Aug 40 were sent to Singapore, in Feb 41 they were sent to Northern Malaya under 11th Indian Div & fought their way south to Singapore losing over a third of their strenght only to be interned as POW's shortly afterwards upon the surrender to the Japanese

[19218] GREAT BRITAIN - CHINA…WW1 CENSORED… 1915 (Nov 2) Mourning envelope to Hotel Kalu, Shanghai endorsed "Via Siberia" bearing 1d & with black on greyish-blue G Arms R /Opened By Censor label obscuring cancellation ...............This censor label differs in size to any recorded by the CCSG measuring overall135 x 44mm with G Arms R being 40 x 10mm & OBC being 48 x 3mm & it is believed this was applied by the British in Shanghai who commenced censoring on 7 May 1915

South Wales Borderers stationed at Tientsin c/w 300 Sikhs landed to assist the Japanese in the capture and surrender of German stronghold at Tsingtao. Tsingtao surrendered on 7 Nov and was formally entered on 16 Nov. The 2nd Batt. SWB were withdrawn after the surrender and were sent by transport to UK]
