]19918] GREAT BRITAIN ..1942 GREATER SECURITY DUE to IMPEDING DIEPPE DOOMED RAID.... 1942 (Jul 17) Plain envelope to National Provincial bank, London bearing GV1 definitive 2˝d tied Seaview /Isle of Wight cds & with PC90 Opened By /Examiner 321 label. ............................................................................................... Censorship was increased due to the impeding Dieppe Raid that took place 9 Aug 1942 with 5,100 Canadian plus 1,000 British Commando & US Rangers that was doomed to failure with insufficient tactical intelligence & inadequate planning for assault or evacuation. The Commando once ashore had some success but the Canadians fighting from an impossible position without heavy support from the sea suffered terrible losses with 75% killed, Wounded or taken POW within 6 hours

APO England was an undercover address for security purposes used during the build up & during the initial stages of the "D" day Normandy landings ................................................ ..............................................Odd item that further research could pay dividends.
