Beams cancelled on reverse single ring Muscat cds & with Amersham (1 Dec) transit cds & with on face rare circular violet Passed /M /Censor applied at Muscat & with Amersham (2 Dec) cds .............By 1914 there was a small Indian contingent at Muscat commanded by British Officers. This was reinforced in October 1914, and in Jan 1915 they subdued a Turkish inspired rebellion & attack on the town. The mail of this small force being transmitted through the civil P.O. with the Muscat force using the distinctive type of rare "M" Censor handstamp

[15123] OMAN - IRELAND.....BRITISH FORCES DURING DHOFAR WAR 1965-75 1970 (Dec 4) Coloured picture postcard showing Camels and Riders-Bahrain to Belfast & datelined The Muscat Regt, Nizwa bearing GB 5d tied in transit by FPO 1 machine date stamp at Al Muharraq, Bahrain & with boxed Received /8 Dec 1970 /Ferguson & McIlween hand stamp in black ......In 1962 a major rebellion broke out against the Sultan in the SW province of Dhofar due to disatisfaction by the people of the fuedal Sultans distribution of wealth accruing from increasing oil revenue. By 1965 the Dhofar Liberation Front was beginning to get support from insurgent forces in Aden, however the British pulled out of Aden in 1967 thus giving way to substantial support from South Yemen, formally Aden, this continued until the sultan was deposed by his son who with additional aid from the British ended the problems in December 1975.
