Box 992, Bombay printed envelope by airmail to General Electric, Schenectady N.Y. bearing India GV1 Pair 1r + Dak Tonga 3a + Dak Runner 2a + Dak Bullock Cart 2a6p making 2r 7½a rate tied Bombay GPO cds & with red on brown Arms / Opened By Censor label with manuscript 17B inserted (CCSG 6A1) & oddly with air etiquette deleted by 2 red Jusqu'a bars ...These Jusqu'a markings are a puzzle as the item is correctly & exactly franked for double airmail rate at Air surcharge 1r2a x 2 = 2r 4a + Surface Charge 3½a = Total charge 2r 7½a via Imperial/BOAC to Athens onwards by European airline to Lisbon & then Panam to New York the only explanation is that the weight exceeded double ½oz .

[17873] GB - AUSTRALIA...SALVAGED from FLYING BOAT "CITY OF KHARTOUM" ... 1935 (Dec 24) Plain envelope by airmail to Melbourne from Bristol with adhesive washed off & water stained & with on back unframed received at G.P.O. Melbourne /Damaged by water hand stamp above P.M. 9 /Postmaster General's Department / Found Open /Officially Sealed / Sch. C.1192 - 8/1934 label tied Melbourne 19 /Vic (19 Jan 1936) cds .................. Airmails for the Middle East & Eastwards to Australia leaving London on 28 December were transferred to Imperial Airways City of Khartoum at Brindisi. On the approach to Alexandria the flying boat ran out of fuel and crashed. The Captain plus 2 passengers survived with 3 crew & 9 passengers who did not.

[17872] GB -INDIA...SALVAGED from AIR LINER "BOADICEA" ... 1936 (Sep 24) Plain envelope by airmail to Abbottabad, NW Frontier, India bearing GV 6d tied Kilburn NW6 cds with water stains & shrinkage + mimeographed typed " The accompanying package which was /washed ashore on the coast of England /was apparently conveyed by Imperial /Airways Airplane "Boadicea" which left /Croydon on the 24th September and failed /to arrive at Paris. /The inconvenience occasioned is /regretted /Returned letter Section /Mount Pleasant /London E.C.1 label ................... Airmails for Africa, India & Australia were loaded on Imperial Airways "Boadicea" at Croydon on 25 September 1936. The aircraft disappeared over the English Channel. One bag of mail was washed ashore at Cucq just south of Le Touqet on 27 Oct, another at Dymchurch on 11 Nov & a 3rd bag brought up by trawler nets 19 months later

Bingley in remarkablly good condition bearing Centenary of South Australia 2d + GV definitive 1/4 making 1/6 rate tied Toorak /Victoria cds & with boxed Damaged By Water hand stamp ................... Airmails from Australia & points east of Egypt were loaded on board Imperial Airways "Scipio" at Alexandria on 22 August 1936. On descending at Mirabelle Bay, Crete it crashed into the sea, 2 passengers died but the remaining 5 plus 4 crew survived. 38 bags of mail were recovered and handed to the Greek P.O. at Athens from where it was forwarded to destination by various means

[17870] GB - PHILIPPINE Is...SALVAGED from FIRE on AIR LINER "ATHENA" ... 1936 (Sep 22) Plain envelope together with charred letter by airmail to Manila bearing combination of GV 6d + GV Photogravure 5d making 11d rate tied Torquay/Devon machine date stamp & with Commonwealth of the Philippines /Officially Sealed /Bureau of Posts label tied by unframed Received in Bad Order hand stamp & on back typed Bulletin of Verification /dated October 3, 1936 / The letters in this bun- /dle of correspondence were /Salvaged from the Imperial /Airways aeroplane "Athena" /destroyed by fire at New /Delhi on the 29th September 1936 label ................... The airliner operating the Karachi - Singapore sector of Imperial Airways service to Australia caught fire at Delhi on 29 Sept when the engines were started. The crew & all passengers safely deboarded the aircraft but much of the mail was destroyed with the remainder being damaged
