[16059] BURMA - JAPAN...JAPANESE 9th RAILWAY REGT on DEATH RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION.. 1944 undated Japanese Military Dove & Helmet orange Stationary card to Kumagaya City from Matuo Shirane, Gotoh Party, Oka 5805 Unit [9th Railway Regt] Thai Dispatch "its hot every season here, but it's cool now..... We serve well in the mountains......the elephants like us and serve well" .....................This unit 5805 arrived Burma February 1944 & were moved to Thailand late 1944 so the reference to cool & mountains indicates this was written between Feb - Apr 44 & is a rare item from the Japanese unit that were responsible for the construction of the Burma side of the Thai-Burma railway..

Dinsty................ The Japanese forces surrendered in August 1945, obviously those remaining became POW when allied forces landed and clearly some, probably those with special skills, were used for specialist services such as crewing the trains
